Canada Pursues Friendlies Against Uruguay And Qatar Before The 2022 World Cup
JAKARTA - The Canadian football federation is making full efforts to schedule a friendly for September against Uruguay and 2022 World Cup hosts, Qatar.
Uruguay, the world number 13 team, are two-time World Cup winners, having lifted the trophy in 1930 and 1950.
Meanwhile, Qatar, who will be making their first appearance at the World Cup at home, is ranked 49th in the FIFA world.
Canada scheduled and canceled two friendlies during the last international window.
Initially, they will play against Iran - who also qualified for Qatar - on 5 June. However, it pulled out of the schedule citing "the untenable geopolitical situation of host Iran being extremely divisive."
The Reds then added Panama as a planned replacement on June 5, but were forced to scrap the game after its players refused to play due to a contract dispute with the national sport's governing body.
Canada are in Group F in their second appearance at the World Cup and will face Belgium, Croatia and Morocco.
