Africans Post Trump's Claim Of Victory As "a Democracy That Cannot Be Emulated"

JAKARTA - Most people on the continent of Africa see the actions of the President of the United States (US) Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election as a dark joke or dark comedy. Trump is considered not only to damage US democracy on charges of cheating. His unilateral victory claim is called a bad example for Africa.

“Trump is setting a bad example for Africa and for a country like us. You cannot proclaim yourself in an election where you are a candidate when justice is there, "said Guinean resident Mory Keita.

Keita's opinion is not completely wrong. Even long before the US presidential election, dozens of people were killed in protests after Guinean President Alpha Conde was re-elected in controversial fashion. That is why the Trump incident is feared again to inspire countries in Africa by injuring democracy.

"This is a complete disgrace. Such chaos deserves a banana republic, a republic whose economy and politics are unstable," said another Guinean, Bachir Diallo.

Even Tanzanians, Tito Kisiya, revealed that what they saw in Trump's behavior was not much different from what they see in African politics today. As a result, when African leaders see it, they will undoubtedly feel there is something in common with Trump.

Even so, not all Africans think badly about the US presidential election. For a schoolteacher in Ivory Coast, Viviane Asseke even assessed that the excitement of the US presidential election which was greeted enthusiastically by the rest of the world made him believe that the US was the real form of democracy.

"(Election) is calm, and there is no violence. It makes you want to choose, "he concluded.
