Banyumas Police Destroy 800 Rombeng Exhausts
JAKARTA - The Traffic Traffic Unit of Banyumas City Resort, Central Java, destroyed 800 "brong" exhausts whose sound was deafening.
The extermination was carried out by cutting the "brong" exhaust into two parts using a chainsaw at the Banyumas Police Headquarters yard, Purwokerto, Banyumas Regency, Tuesday 12 July.
During a press conference at the Banyumas Police Hall prior to the destruction of the exhaust, the Head of the Banyumas Police Chief Commissioner Edy Suranta Sitepu said the use of "brong" exhaust had caused public unrest.
"Therefore, during the 2022 Candi Obey Operation which was held on June 13-26, the Banyumas Traffic Police Unit took action against around 1,500 violators, 800 of them using 'brong' exhausts," said Edy, quoted from Antara.
Furthermore, Kasatlantas said that people often complain about the use of a "brong" exhaust because the sound is so loud that it disturbs residents who are resting or praying.
According to him, the average "brong" exhaust users on motorcycles are still young or ranging from 17 years to 25 years.
"During the fine, we detained the motorized vehicle (vehicles that use Brong exhaust, ed)," he said.
Furthermore, he said, the owner of the vehicle underwent trial and paid the fine to the Prosecutor's Office and showed proof of payment of the fine to the Banyumas Police Traffic Unit when he was about to take his vehicle.
However, the Banyumas Satlantas Polresta did not immediately hand over the vehicle to its owner.
"When they want to take their motorized vehicle, we are obliged to replace the exhaust with a standard exhaust. This 'brong' exhaust was voluntarily handed over by the violators to the Banyumas Police Traffic Unit to be destroyed," said Commissioner Bobby.
