BMKG Asks Sula And Talibu Islands, North Maluku To Beware Of 2.5 Meter High Waves

TERNATE - BMKG Meteorological Station Sultan Baabullah Ternate, asked people in the North Maluku (Malut) region to be aware of the potential for strong winds accompanied by high waves reaching 2.5 meters.

Weather Forecaster, BMKG Sultan Baabullah Ternate, Fahmi Bachdar said vigilance was especially for the people in the Sula and Taliabu Islands Regencies.

"We ask sea service users to remain careful and the BMKG has issued an early warning of high waves reaching 2.5 meters in the Sula Islands, Taliabu and surrounding areas," he said in Ternate, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, July 12.

For this reason, Fahmi appealed to small-sized sea transportation users and fishermen in the area to keep abreast of developments in weather conditions in order to avoid accidents due to surging sea weather conditions.

In addition, said Fahmi, in addition to various other areas in North Maluku to remain vigilant, following the potential for heavy rains accompanied by strong winds resulting in high waves.

The BMKG also issued an early warning alert of the potential for moderate to heavy rain which could be accompanied by lightning and strong winds in the Maba, Wasile, Weda, Gane and Labuha areas which could result in flooding in the area.

Meanwhile, previously, the Search and Rescue Office of the Ternate Basarnas asked sea transportation users in the Sula and Taliabu Islands Regencies to remain careful, following the high sea waves in the area.

Head of Operations and Alerts Section of the Ternate Basarnas, Bram Madya, admitted that some time ago, his party received reports of a longboat departing from Sanana Harbor to Brokol Village, but in the middle of the journey between Mangoli Village and Sanana the ship was hit by waves and capsized due to extreme weather conditions.

Meanwhile, the Directorate of Water and Air Police (Ditpolairud) of the North Maluku Police reminded fishermen, motorists and ship operators to be aware of bad weather in North Maluku waters.

Director of Polairud Polda Malut, Kombes Pol R Djarot Agung Riadi said with the current weather conditions, but before issuing a permit the ship looked at the weather and then always updated the weather.

"The feasibility of the ship is necessary, if the ship is not feasible, don't be forced to sail," he said.

Djarot stated that his party must also pay attention to the safety of fishermen, motorists and ship operators, then colleagues from several agencies can see directly whether the ship is worthy or not sailing.
