Highlight Sexual Harassment In Angkot, Deputy Governor Of DKI Loves Other Passengers To Drivers Not Help Victims

JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria highlighted the incident of sexual harassment in public transportation number 44 on Monday, July 4. In this case, the victim with the initials AF admitted that there were no other passengers until the driver helped him during the harassment.

Riza also regretted this. According to Riza, the people who witnessed this helped and provided support to the victims.

"Of course, in such an atmosphere, we ask other passengers to provide assistance and support to the victims. Don't let other passengers just remain silent, be afraid. We must face any form of harassment or crime together to help each other," said Riza at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Thursday, July 7 evening.

Riza appreciated the courage of the victim who recorded the perpetrator so that this incident could be highlighted by the public until the police took action. It is hoped that an action like this can have a deterrent effect on the perpetrators.

"What the victim did was also extraordinary by doing (recording) the video. This is an example that needs to be a deterrent effect in the future. This incident can still be reported so that in the future there will be no more unpleasant events like this," he explained.

Furthermore, Riza asked all parties to be careful of the potential harassment that occurs in public spaces, including the mode of public transportation.

"We ask all people to be more careful, especially sitting in an angkot which may be very close. Then the second is also the community or residents, if there is such harassment, immediately report it to the angkot driver, the angkot stops, then report it to the police so that it will be followed up later," explained Riza.

As is known, a Karayawati with the initials AF (21) is suspected of being a victim of sexual harassment by a man on the Ciputra-Kuningan public transportation route, South Jakarta. The Head of Criminal Investigation at the South Jakarta Metro Police, AKBP Ridwan Soplanit, confirmed the information regarding the reporting of sexual harassment.

He added that his report had been received with a report registered with the number LP/1586/VII/2022/RJS dated Monday, July 4, 2022. "Currently, the case is being handled by the PPA Unit and is in the process of being investigated. The crime scene is on Jalan Rasuna Said, South Jakarta," Ridwan said when confirmed.

According to the chronology, the victim sat next to the perpetrator on the Ciputra-Kuningan route public transportation. At the time of the incident, the victim felt that his chest was like being grabbed. However, the perpetrator's actions were finally revealed after the victim found out that the perpetrator's hand was on his chest and was covered by a bag on his lap.

Knowing this, the victim then moved places to record the perpetrator's face to be used as evidence for reporting to the police. At that time, the victim shouted and cried. But unfortunately, no one helped the victim.
