Uncovering Queen Elizabeth II's Secret Passage At Buckingham Palace, Hidden In A Mirror

JAKARTA - Buckingham Palace is one of the most famous buildings in England. This luxurious residence has 770 rooms that have been a place for historic and special guests for decades.

And the most famous occupant of the palace is of course, Queen Elizabeth II, who has lived in the palace for most of her reign.

But, a palace the size of Buckingham definitely has a number of secrets. At the very least, a hidden passage that would allow the Queen to move and surprise guests.

The White Drawing Room is one of three rooms originally created as an apartment for George IV. The chambers, including the Crimson and Green Drawing rooms, are now used by the Queen for entertainment.

But, what some guests may not know, is that the Queen came to greet the honored guest via her secret path.

This secret door allows the Queen to create an entrance that guests will never forget. The door, which led to the private royal apartment, was barely visible to the naked eye.

"The queen enters the room through a hidden door disguised as a mirror and wardrobe before accepting guests," according to the Royal website.

“Ambassadors and High Commissioners from around the world present their 'credentials' (sort of formal CV) to His Excellency when they take up positions in London.

"For larger events, this room is often used for the main guest to be presented to the Queen before everyone moves into the surrounding State Rooms to mingle."

And over the years the room has been used as a backdrop for the Queen's annual Christmas broadcast and family photos.
