Police Intercepted-Kapolres Lectured By Kiai Father Of Suspect For Sexual Abuse Of Jombang Santriwati, Bareskrim Claims Current Case Handling

JAKARTA - The National Police Criminal Investigation Unit has no plans to take over the handling of the sexual abuse case against female students in Jombang Regency with the suspect child of Kiai, MSAT. Because, in the current process, there are no significant obstacles.

"The East Java Police are still fully under the authority of the East Java Regional Police, the suspect is still in the East Java Regional Police's jurisdiction," said the Director of General Crimes at the Indonesian National Police, Brigadier General Andi Rian, when contacted, Wednesday, July 6.

He has not yet taken over the handling of the case because the East Java Regional Police are still considered reluctant to handle it. Moreover, no significant obstacles were found.

Even so, Bareskrim, especially the Directorate of General Crimes, will continue to monitor the progress of the case.

"So far the handling of cases by the East Java Police has gone smoothly without any problems," he said.

Regarding the process of handling this case, this one-star general said it was running smoothly. The case file has been declared complete or P-21.

"Only the second phase of the process has not been completed," said Andi.

MSAT is one of three suspects in sexual harassment cases against female students. The determination of his status as a suspect has been carried out since 2019.

However, when the second phase was about to be carried out or delegated to the Prosecutor's Office, the police failed to arrest the perpetrators. Even his father, who is an influential kiai in Jombang, asked for his son's case to be dismissed.

The perpetrator had submitted a pretrial to the Surabaya District Court, but the request was rejected by the panel of judges in December 2021 due to shortcomings from the respondent.

MSAT previously denied harassing Islamic boarding school students and stated that they had been slandered.
