TikTok Trial Live Streaming Setup For Audience Age 18+
JAKARTA - TikTok has confirmed that it is testing a new setting that will allow users to limit their live streams to viewers aged 18 and over.
The company behind the TikTok app, ByteDance, told TechCrunch that the company is currently conducting a limited trial with select users.
A screenshot on product intelligence firm Watchful.ai shows that someone with access to this new option can navigate to the app's settings and they can activate the "Mature Themes" button.
After enabling it, you'll see "Only viewers aged 18 and over can see your live," and TikTok will automatically restrict the live stream.
However, it's worth noting that even if you're setting restrictions (18+), it doesn't mean you're free to broadcast adult content, the company will still remove your content if it violates the app's community guidelines, which include policies on nudity, sexual activity and violence.
This new arrangement will come months after TikTok said it wanted to start identifying which content is appropriate for younger and older teens versus adults.
TikTok also said it was developing a system to identify and restrict certain types of content from being accessible to teens and asked all creators to determine whether their content is appropriate for an adult audience.
