KPK Chair: Auditors Play An Important Role In Combating And Preventing Corruption
BADUNG - Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Firli Bahuri emphasized that auditors have an important role in helping law enforcement officers eradicate and prevent corruption.
The Indonesian delegation led by the KPK led the discussion on increasing the role of audit in eradicating corruption at the 2nd Round Anti-Corruption Working Group (ACWG) Meeting which took place in Badung, Bali, on 5-8 July 2022.
"How can we empower auditors, because if the auditors are good, of course there will be no misappropriation of state money, therefore we take advantage of the role of audit in eradicating, including prevention," said Firli Bahuri as quoted by Antara, Tuesday, July 5.
Increasing the role of auditors in eradicating corruption is one of the three priority issues proposed by Indonesia at the ACWG forum.
In ACWG Round 1. The issue received support from all G20 delegates to enter the high-level principle (HLP) discussion stage so that the results will become a binding policy document for G20 members.
"The high-level document that will be agreed later will be a working reference for the world, globally, on how to eradicate corruption," said Firli.
Firli, who attended the first HLP meeting related to the role of auditing, Tuesday, said he was optimistic that the delegates would agree on the principles that would be summarized in the policy document.
“Earlier I attended the discussion, there were delegates from nine countries who were physically present, 10 countries (present) virtual, and one entity, namely the European Union, also participated in the discussion. Alhamdulillah, it seems that the focal point (priority issue) proposed by Indonesia can be agreed and formulated," said Firli Bahuri.
He conveyed that the results of a series of ACWG meetings, namely ACWG Round 3 will include a declaration which is planned to take place in Australia in September 2022.
The last ACWG meeting took place in Australia because that country this year also served as the Chair of the Meeting (Co-Chair) with Indonesia.
"Hopefully what we (Indonesia) provide will be useful for eradicating corruption. Not only for Indonesia, but for the world," he said.
In the 2nd Round of ACWG, the G20 delegation will discuss drafts of policy documents for the issue of increasing the role of audit in eradicating corruption. Discussions on the contents of the draft will take place over three days from 5–7 July 2022.
