Official! PSG Appoints Christophe Galtier As New Coach After Sacking Mauricio Pochettino
JAKARTA — Paris Saint-Germain has officially appointed Christophe Galtier as their new coach. This was done after ending the collaboration with the previous coach Mauricio Pochettino.
Pochettino officially leaves the coach of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) after 18 months in charge on Tuesday, 5 July WIB.
The loss of the Argentine's post as PSG tactician had been expected for almost the last time. However, it has only been confirmed at this time.
"Paris Saint-Germain can confirm that Mauricio Pochettino has ended his role at the club," PSG said in a statement.
"The club would like to thank Mauricio Pochettino and his staff for their work and wish them all the best for their future."
Pochettino left his post after presenting his 10th French League 1 title for the club nicknamed Les Parisien. The title equaled the record 10 titles owned by Marseille and AS Saint-Étienne.
After announcing their farewell to Pochettino, PSG immediately introduced Galtier as the successor to the Argentine tactician.
Galtier, who previously managed Nice, has signed a two-year contract until the summer of 2024.
He left Nice last month after guiding them to fifth in French Ligue 1 and finishing runners-up in the Coupe de la France last season.
The 55-year-old, who led Lille to the Ligue 1 title in 2021, is PSG's seventh coach since being taken over by Qatari tycoon Nasser Al-Khelaifi in 2011.
"I am delighted to join Paris Saint-Germain, I would like to thank chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi, [football adviser] Luis Campos and the club for their trust in me," Galtier said.
"I am fully aware of the responsibility to coach this extraordinary team, which is one of the most competitive and spectacular teams in Europe."
