14 Years Of Operation, Illegal Abortion Clinic In Pandeglang Revealed

JAKARTA - The Banten Regional Police's Special Criminal Investigation Directorate (Dit Reskrimsus) has uncovered cases of illegal abortion clinics in Cipacing Village, Ciputri Village, Kaduhejo District, Pandeglang Regency, Banten.

From this disclosure, the police managed to arrest three suspects, including NN (53) who works as a midwife, ER (38) a nurse, and RY (23) a patient who is a private employee.

Director of the Special Criminal Investigation of the Banten Regional Police, Kombes Pol Nunung Syaifuudin, said that the disclosure of the case was based on information from the public who were suspicious of the location of the Midwives Sejahtra clinic being used to abort the womb.

"The disclosure of this case is based on information received by our members from the public, who are suspicious of the entry and exit of patients. They consider it unnatural, and the patients are more women," said Kombes Nunung Syaifuudin in a press conference for the disclosure of the case at the Banten Police Headquarters, reported by Antara, Tuesday, November 3.

Then, armed with this information, his party immediately carried out an investigation by following one of the patients who wanted to have an abortion at the Bidan Sejahtra clinic.

"While on the road, we asked a patient, and admitted that he had already had an abortion at the clinic. When checked in the clinic, there was still a blood clot from the abortion in one of the sinks," he said.

Nunung explained, from the suspect's statement that the illegal abortion clinic had been running since 2006 and had performed more than a hundred abortions.

"According to the midwife's admission, more than 100 have had abortions at a price or rate per patient of Rp 2.5 million," said Nunung.

He revealed, if the baby from the results of the abortion over 3 months was brought by the patient. While babies who are under 3 months are thrown into the sink drain.

"We have also conducted searches to several places that we suspect are dumping places for babies, but we did not find them," he said.

In addition, said Nunung, his party also secured several pieces of evidence such as one curette spoon, two comminstruments, injection drugs, injections and a genocology table and Rp2.5 million in cash.

For his actions, the suspect NN was subject to Article 194 in conjunction with Article 75 paragraph (2) of Law Number 36 Year 2009 concerning Health with a maximum threat of 10 years and a maximum fine of Rp. 1 billion.

"Meanwhile, the suspect RY was charged under Article 346 of the Criminal Code, in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code I, whoever deliberately aborted or killed his womb or ordered someone else to face a maximum jail sentence of 4 years," said Nunung.
