Jokowi Signs The Work Creation Law, KSPI Threatens To Sue The Constitutional Court To Strike

JAKARTA - The Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) has responded to the issue of the Job Creation Law which has officially become Law Number 11 of 2020. The Omnibus Law is officially effective after being signed by President Joko Widodo on November 2.

The President of KSPI Said Iqbal said that his party continued to demand that the Job Creation Law be canceled through the legislative review by the DPR RI.

"The KSPI together with Indonesian workers firmly stated their refusal and requested that the law be canceled or repealed. We demand the DPR to issue a legislative review of Law No. 11 of 2020," said Iqbal in a written statement, November 3.

Not only that, Iqbal said that his party is increasingly determined to file a judicial review and formal review of the Job Creation Law to the Constitutional Court.

"This morning, KSPI and KSPSI AGN will officially register a judicial review lawsuit to the Constitutional Court against Law No. 11 of 2020 concerning Job Creation," he said.

Apart from making constitutional efforts, the KSPI will also continue with demonstrations and strikes. "This is in accordance with the constitutional rights of workers which are regulated in law and are anti-violence in nature," he said.

As is known, Jokowi officially signed the Omnibus Law on the Job Creation Law which was ratified by the DPR on October 5. The signing of this law was held on Monday, November 2 and promulgated in Law Number 11 of 2020.

The government has also officially uploaded a copy of this law via the jdih.setneg.go.id site. The number of pages in the Job Creation Law is 1,187 pages.

A number of demonstrations by workers and students against the ratification of the Job Creation Law have occurred since this law was passed at the DPR Plenary Session some time ago.

Labor and student groups rejected it for a number of reasons. Apart from being deemed to be detrimental to workers by regulating the labor cluster in the law, the Job Creation Law has been under the spotlight because it is considered to have been carried out in a hurry and closed in discussion even though this has been denied compactly by the government and the legislature.
