7 Hours Of Rain, Main Street And Market In Banjarmasin Flooded, BPBD Reminds Potential Rob Flood

BANJARMASIN - Heavy rains that hit the city of Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan from 04.00 WITA to 10.00 WITA today caused flooding everywhere.

Head of the Banjarmasin City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Fahruraji, stated that the heavy rain that occurred for about seven hours today had completely flooded almost all main roads and markets.

According to his field observations, several main roads in Banjarmasin City were inundated with a height of 10-30 cm due to rain and river tides.

Not only on roads, flood inundation also occurs in market areas, especially those adjacent to rivers, such as Pasar Sudimampir and Pasar Lima which are monitored until water enters the shops.

"Currently the BPBD TRC Team is still patrolling the field. For the official status, we are still seeing developments. Personnel and equipment are ready to anticipate," he said.

Fahruraji stated that the inundation conditions in a number of areas were still not too worrying, but still everyone had to be vigilant, because rain could happen again. Not to mention, he said, this condition will coincide with the occurrence of higher tides, which will increase the tidal flood.

"There are 3 events that must be watched out for at this time, heavy rain, water sent from upstream because Banjar, Banjarbaru and Tanah Laut Regencies are also experiencing heavy rain and the threat of tidal flooding," he said.

According to Fahruraji, to anticipate all of this, his party has now prepared flood relief equipment, including rubber boats.

Previously, said Fahruraji, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) had also given an early warning on June 4, 2021 for residents of the City of Banjarmasin.

BMKG asked to be alert for the potential for rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds in the City of Banjarmasin and its surroundings, to always be vigilant and monitor the latest weather developments.
