Talking About Peace Is Indonesia's Priority, Like This Jokowi's Complete Statement In Front Of Putin

JAKARTA - After meeting Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv, President Jokowi immediately flew to Russia to meet Vladimir Putin. Jokowi emphasized that peace and humanity have always been a priority for Indonesia's foreign policy.

Previously, at the Maryinsky Palace, Kyiv, June 29, 2022, President Joko Widodo offered to bring a message from the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky to President Vladirmir Putin.

President Jokowi made this statement after holding a closed meeting with Zelensky in Kyiv, late last month.

Jokowi's arrival to Kyiv has indeed attracted public attention. Indonesia, through Jokowi, wants to find a solution to the protracted conflict on Ukrainian soil.

In Moscow, Jokowi continues to encourage that it is important that a peaceful settlement be put forward and that spaces for dialogue can continue to be opened.

"I convey my readiness to be a communication bridge between the two leaders," said Jokowi.

The following is a complete quote from the Joint Press Statement of the President of the Republic of Indonesia and the President of Russia, in Moscow, Russia, June 30, 2022. This statement is also published on the official website of the Cabinet Secretariat.

First of all, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to President Putin for welcoming me to Moscow.

Several things that I discussed and conveyed at the meeting: First, that the issue of peace and humanity has always been a priority for Indonesia's foreign policy. The Indonesian constitution mandates that Indonesia always try to contribute to the creation of world peace. It is in this context that I made visits to Kyiv and to Moscow.

Second, as I said in Kyiv, although the current situation is still very difficult, I still convey that it is important to continue to promote a peaceful settlement and that spaces for dialogue can continue to be opened. I have conveyed President Zelenskyy's message to President Putin, and I conveyed my readiness to serve as a bridge of communication between the two leaders.

Third, I had a lot of discussions and emphasized that food and fertilizer are humanitarian issues, are in the interest of the world community, and hundreds of millions of people are affected by disruption of the food and fertilizer supply chain, especially in developing countries. I really appreciate President Putin who said earlier that he provided security guarantees for food and fertilizer supplies both from Russia and from Ukraine. This is good news.

Then fourth, for the sake of humanity, I also support the United Nations' efforts to reintegrate Russian food and fertilizer commodities and Ukrainian food commodities to re-enter the world supply chain. And specifically for the export route for Ukrainian food products, especially through the sea route, President Putin once again gave his guarantee.

And fifth, we had a long discussion about cooperation between Russia and Indonesia, both in the investment sector, in the trade sector, and in the tourism sector, which we will follow up by forming a team so that we can discuss it in detail.

In closing, I can say that Indonesia does not have any interest, except to see that the war can be ended soon and the supply chain of food, fertilizer, energy can be repaired immediately because this involves the lives of hundreds of millions of people, even billions of people. I invite all world leaders to work together to revive the spirit of multilateralism, the spirit of peace, and the spirit of cooperation. Only with this spirit can peace be achieved.

Thank you President Putin, thank you.
