DPR Commission II Agrees, Proposes Perppu Instead Of Revision Of Laws Related To The 2024 Election
JAKARTA - Member of Commission II of the DPR, Guspardi Gaus, said that so far the discussions at Commission II of the DPR have agreed to propose to President Jokowi to issue a Government Regulation in Lieu of Law (Perppu) related to the 2024 Election.
"So far, discussions and talks at Commission II have agreed that the Perppu will be adopted to fill the void of legal instruments regarding elections in those locations rather than revising Law Number 7/2017 concerning General Elections," said Guspardi Gaus, quoting Antara, Sunday, July 3. .
Therefore, according to him, Commission II of the DPR tends to prefer that the president issue a Perppu regarding the emergence of electoral districts due to the division of three provinces in Papua and the National Capital (IKN) of the Archipelago.
According to him, the tendency of the factions in Commission II of the DPR to consider revising the Election Law would take a long time and could spread to other clusters.
"In fact, we will only fill in the gaps in the rules regarding the election because of the new autonomous regions in the three provinces in Papua and IKN," he said.
He explained, referring to the experience when postponing the 2020 Pilkada from 29 September 2020 to 9 December 2020, it was also carried out through a Perppu.
He also reminded that the KPU may propose to revise the Election Law, but it is the DPR and the government that will decide. "The KPU carries out the implementation of what we have determined by the DPR and the government," he said.
In addition, he said, Commission II of the DPR, the government, and election organizers will discuss the addition of the 2024 election budget due to the addition of three provinces in Papua and the IKN.
According to him, Commission II of the DPR will determine the right time to discuss various matters related to the 2024 Election with the government and election organizers. "Currently, the election stage has not yet entered into the determination of electoral districts and so on," he said.
