The PMK Outbreak Makes Dairy Entrepreneurs In Kudus, Central Java Not Dare To Buy New Dairy Cows, Production Drops By 30 Liters Per Day
JAKARTA - Cow's milk entrepreneurs in Kudus Regency, Central Java, have not yet dared to buy new dairy cows, although there are some cows that are about to be sold because their productivity has started to decline following an outbreak of mouth and nail disease (FMD).
"Before the foot and mouth disease (PMK) outbreak occurred, cows whose milk productivity decreased to 6 liters per day had to be immediately sold to be exchanged for new lactating cows," said Zaenal Abidin, owner of Fresh Source Milking Cows in Garung Lor Village, Kaliwungu District. , Kudus, quoted from Antara, Friday July 1st.
Under normal conditions, according to Zaenal Abidin, his cows can produce between 10-12 liters of milk per day, while those whose productivity has decreased to 6 liters per day are the time to be sold to buy new lactating cows that can produce up to 12 liters of milk per day.
However, he said, of his 19 lactating cows, it was recorded that there were two cows that should have been sold to buy new lactating cows so that their milk production could be stable.
He admits that in a day he can produce 200 liters of milk, while currently it is decreasing to 170 liters per day due to the presence of milk whose productivity has decreased and has not been replaced with new lactating cows.
In anticipation of not being exposed to his cows, he temporarily stopped the purchase of dairy cows that previously routinely imported from Boyolali Regency.
"This is because Boyolali Regency as a dairy cow producing area is also one of the FMD outbreak areas," said Zaenal.
For the time being, he said, the purchase of cows was waiting for the situation to be conducive and according to the instructions from the Kudus Agriculture and Food Service.
Even though there is an outbreak of FMD, he continued, demand for cow's milk is still stable and has not been affected by information on the spread of FMD.
As announced, the Ministry of Agriculture has distributed 651,700 doses of PMK emergency vaccine since Friday, June 24 and has been received by various national livestock enclaves. 3 million doses of emergency vaccines have been prepared, and the government will continue to increase the number of PMK vaccines to 29 million doses.
