American Idol Finalist Nikki McKibbin Dies

JAKARTA - Nikki McKibbin, finalist for the first season of American Idol, died at the age of 42.

Launching The Independent, Monday, November 2, McKibbin reportedly died of a brain aneurysm in which blood vessels in the brain are weak.

This news was first shared by Redeye Radio presenter, Gary McNamara, who said that Nikki McKibbin had been treated since October 28.

Nikki McKibbin appeared as a contestant in the first season of the American Idol singing competition. He finished in third position after being defeated by Justin Guarini and Kelly Clarkson who finished first.

After appearing on American Idol, McKibbin joined RCA Records. The label asked him to record a country album but he chose to stick with rock as his favorite. He also left and starred in various television shows such as Reality TV Stars and Kill Reality.

In 2007, McKibbin released his first album, Unleashed and followed the television show Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew where he received treatment for alcohol and cocaine addiction.

He was also seen taking his son to audition for the 13th season of American Idol in 2014.
