French Police Arrest 2 More People Related To Terror In Nice

JAKARTA - Two more men were detained by security forces in France, bringing the total number of suspects arrested by the police in connection with the terror act in Nice to 6, said a local police officer who declined to give their names.

As reported by Antara, Sunday, November 1, the police are still trying to find other suspects, because investigators are still looking for the people who were last contacted by the terrorists.

The two new suspects were arrested on Saturday, October 31, said the same source.

Police arrested two men from the city of Grasse, near France's southern coastal region not far from Nice, reported television channel BFM TV.

An assailant attacks a woman and kills two others, at the Nice church, Thursday, October 29. The incident was the second deadly act of terror in two weeks, possibly driven by radicalism.

The perpetrator of the attack, a 21-year-old Tunisian man, was shot by police. He is still in critical condition in hospital.

France's chief prosecutor for counter-terrorism said the man suspected of being the attacker in Nice arrived in Lampedusa, an Italian island bordering Tunisia, on September 20.

A number of investigators in Italy have also assisted investigations of law enforcement officials in France, particularly regarding the activities of the suspect and those he contacted on the island of Sicily.

Investigators believe that the suspect lived in Sicily after crossing from Lampedusa to Bari in early October on a ship normally used to quarantine the refugees, officials said.

The suspect is also believed to have received a warning letter to leave Italy within a week, the same source said.

Investigators are still looking for the possibility that the suspect had lived in the city of Alcamo, Sicily, for 10 days, said several sources.
