Preventing Sexual Harassment On Trains, KAI Installs Analytical CCTV At 18 Points
JAKARTA - PT KAI Commuter will install surveillance cameras or analytical CCTV at several stations to prevent acts of violence and sexual harassment.
Later, the CCTV will be installed at 18 points at several stations.
Corporate Secretary of PT KAI Commuter, Anne Purba explained, the CCTV will monitor the faces of perpetrators who often sexually abuse women and children.
"So that we can enter into the system the faces that have been reported as perpetrators, so that they are detected at the station, we can anticipate that they will not enter the KRL," he said at a press conference at Tanah Abang Station, Jakarta, Wednesday, June 29.
However, Anne explained, the installation of this tool is still in the development stage. Because, perpetrators of sexual harassment often camouflage by using masks or hats.
"Because the perpetrators wear masks, wear hats, so we continue to develop the system," he said.
According to Anne, this analytical CCTV is needed to improve the safety and comfort of passengers in line with the high level of community mobilization at the train station.
Moreover, KAI Commuter is also targeted to serve 2 million passengers.
"Because after all, community mobilization at stations after this pandemic has increased. If before the pandemic we had served up to 1.2 million passengers, we are targeted to be able to serve the community up to 2 million per day. Because there are concerns about pollution and so on," he said.
Anne said that preventing acts of violence and sexual harassment was the concern of KAI Commuter.
Therefore, it also continues to educate and outreach. In fact, education is also carried out to schools, considering that currently many students use trains to go to school.
"So we at KAI Commuter are very concerned about this. How as operators can we also play a role so that sexual harassment can be prevented. Education is not only at stations but in schools. Continuous education can reduce the occurrence of sexual harassment," said Anne .
In addition, Anne said, KAI Commuter has also allowed children to enter the women's carriage. Because, currently sexual harassment in KRL also occurs in children.
"The toilets are also separate. We also separate several services, for example on the train women are allowed to have children, because sexual harassment occurs in children," he said.
KAI Commuter campaigned for the prevention of violence and sexual acts at Tanah Abang Station which was filled with talk shows related to 'Prevention of Sexual Harassment'.
Apart from Tanah Abang Station, KAI Commuter also conducted campaigns at Bogor Station and Cikarang Station through posters and stickers.
Anne said, KAI Commuter also invites the public to sign a petition against violence and sexual harassment on public transportation, especially KRL transportation.
