The Anime Film Demon Slayer: Mugen Train Was A Huge Success In Japan

JAKARTA - The anime film Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Mugen Train achieved great success amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Since its premiere on October 16, the film has earned US $ 100 million.

This anime is adapted from a manga series of the same title with a time setting 100 years ago. Demon Slayer tells of Tanjiro Kamado, a boy who fights monsters to return his younger sister who was transformed into a demon.

Launching Nikkei Asia on October 31, the achievement of 100 million US dollars became the fastest after this record was held by Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away. This achievement made the Japanese entertainment sector recover.

Interestingly, this film managed to score big even though theaters in Japan implemented health protocols such as reducing seat capacity to 50 percent.

The excitement of Demon Slayer does not stop at the film, it is evident that various chain stores are competing to release souvenirs related to the film.

Sushi restaurant, Kura Sushi managed to sell out 400 thousand units of a plastic folder with the theme of the Demon Slayer.

Following the success of the film, the comic version of Demon Slayer also sold more than 100 million copies defeating anime such as One Piece and Dragon Ball. This manga has also sold in more than 30 countries, including Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam and many others.

Currently, the Demon Slayer television series which aired in September 2019 has been purchased by Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and can be watched by streaming service subscribers.

Meanwhile, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train will be shown in theaters following the regulations of each country.
