Couples Who Produce And Circulate Counterfeit Money In Cirebon Arrested By The Police
CIREBON - The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Cirebon City Police, West Java, arrested a husband and wife who produced counterfeit money, and sold or circulated them through social media.
"We arrested a husband-wife couple with the initials DM (37) and US (32), both of whom were involved in cases of counterfeiting and circulating money," said Cirebon City Police Chief, AKBP Fahri Siregar, as reported by Antara, Monday, June 27.
He said apart from arresting them, the police also arrested FA (14), who is a dealer of counterfeit money.
According to AKBP Fahri, the initial disclosure of the case was after the FA spent counterfeit money to one of the traders to get real money back. However, the victim, who is a trader, was suspicious of the condition of the money being spent by the FA, and it was later confirmed that it was counterfeit money.
"After knowing the money spent was fake, the victim immediately chased the FA and secured it and took it to the nearest police station," he said.
After being interrogated, FA admitted to getting fake money from the husband and wife through social media, and the police immediately moved and arrested those who are residents of Indramayu Regency, West Java.
"After being arrested, it turned out that this husband and wife couple were producing and selling counterfeit money," he said.
From the suspect's hands, the police confiscated 69 pieces of the IDR 5,000 denomination, 93 pieces of the IDR 20,000 denomination, 307 pieces of the IDR 50,000 denomination, and 60 pieces of the IDR 100,000 denomination. In addition, officers also confiscated printing machines, paper, scissors, cutting knives, and others.
As a result of his actions, the suspects were charged with Article 244 of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Articles 36 and 37 of Law Number 7/2011 concerning Currency with a maximum imprisonment of life and a fine of Rp. 100 billion.
