DKI Transportation Agency Asks Polda To Help Routine Patrols To Prevent Bicycle Begal
JAKARTA - Head of DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo, asked for assistance from Polda Metro Jaya to carry out routine patrols in bicycle lanes. This is related to the bicycle begging case that has occurred recently.
"We hope that the Polda Metro Jaya will also carry out routine patrols. So, upon seeing the officer, of course the intention of the perpetrator (bicycle robber) will be canceled," said Syafrin when contacted, Friday, October 30.
Syafrin said that the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency could not alone monitor the traffic from mugging cases. In fact, Syafrin has also formed a joint team with the police and the TNI called the Lintas Jaya Team. However, the number of members and the guarded territory is limited.
"The existing cross-glorious team is indeed a limited number, which consists of the Transportation Agency, the police and the TNI in 5 regions. But, the number is limited. So, the coverage area is also limited," said Syafrin.
Furthermore, to minimize the potential for bicycle begging cases, Syafrin also asked the public not to wear and carry valuables while cycling on the road.
"We also urge the cyclists to avoid carrying valuables. So usually the perpetrator will see 'oh what kind of item does he bring' he is after," he said.
"What the mugging targets are cellphones, wallets, and bags. Even if for example you carry these items, put them in your pockets, so you don't see any chance of snatching," he continued.
