First Day Long Holiday, 61,000 People Flock To Soekarno-Hatta Airport: A Record During The Pandemic

JAKARTA - Director General of Air Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation Novie Riyanto appreciated the operation and implementation of health protocols on the first day of the long weekend, or the long holiday from October 28 to November 1, 2020 at Soekarno-Hatta Airport.

"Soekarno-Hatta Airport is able to keep the health protocol running," said the Director General of Civil Aviation, quoted from Antara, Thursday, October 29.

As for October 28, 2020, which is the first day of this long holiday period, the number of passenger movements at Soekarno-Hatta Airport reached 61,000 people or the highest number of daily passengers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, the flight frequency was also the highest, totaling 638 flights. The Director General of Civil Aviation also conducts a review of the passenger flow, operational and health protocols in Terminal 2 and Terminal 3, and also conducts ramp checks on the air side.

After inspecting Terminal 2 and Terminal 3, the review continued to the Jakarta Air Traffic Services Center (JATSC) building, which is the location for flight navigation services.

President Director of PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) Muhammad Awaluddin said October 27-28 was the peak flow of departures during the long holiday period 28 October-1 November 2020.

"In the midst of this pandemic, the average passenger at Soekarno-Hatta Airport is 40,000-45,000 people per day, and today, October 28, 2020 we estimate it will reach around 61,000 people. This is also in accordance with reports we received from airlines, that the number passengers today reached around 61,000 people, "he explained.

Meanwhile, Executive General Manager of Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Agus Haryadi, said that personnel were prepared at a number of points to ensure the health protocol was running well.

"Keeping your distance must be maintained. Personnel focus on anticipating a number of points such as check-in areas, security check points, boarding lounges. The disinfection process in all terminals is carried out periodically, and surveillance in the CCTV room is also carried out 24 hours," he said.

As for the peak return flow at Soekarno-Hatta Airport is expected to occur on 30 October and 1 November 2020. Director of Operation & Service of PT Angkasa Pura II Muhamad Wasid said that busy flight traffic also exists at other airports under the company.

"PT Angkasa Pura II, together with stakeholders, remains on standby to increase focus on serving travelers and maintaining proper health protocols. We always try to keep people's travel smoothly at 19 airports," he said.
