4 Reasons To Watch My Sassy Girl Movie

JAKARTA - My Sassy Girl starts showing in theaters today, Thursday, June 23. This is a romantic comedy teen drama film directed by Fajar Bustomi and written by Titien Wattimena.

The film, which is a remake of the 2001 South Korean film of the same name, stars Jefri Nichol and Tiara Andini, as well as being Tiara's debut in a feature film.

Gian (Jefri Nichol) is supposed to go to his aunt's house, who wants to set Gian up with his late son's ex-lover. However, from being at the station, to being on the integrated highway mode, Gian is caught in a situation that requires him to take care of a drunk girl named Sisi (Tiara Andini), by taking her to a hotel.

There was a misunderstanding between Gian and Sisi, but that was precisely what led them to meeting after meeting.

The encounter forms a camaraderie, in which Gian finds himself unable and unwilling to stay away from Sisi, despite Sisi's frequent bullying of him.

A side that has a gloomy side as a result of his past, can find happiness whenever he is with Gian.

Unfortunately, Sisi always felt that she didn't deserve to be happy. Meanwhile, Gian always tries to obey Sisi's wishes, including any strange requests, in order to bring Sisi free from the sadness that Gian often finds among Sisi's ridiculous behavior.

Here are 4 reasons to watch My Sassy Girl:

1. Comparing with the Korean Version It's hard not to compare the remake with the original, which was released more than two decades ago by director Kwak Jae-yong, and starred Cha Tae-hyun and Jun Ji-hyun.

Indonesia is not the only country that has adapted this film. Previously, America, India, China, Nepal, the Philippines, and even Lithuania also remade the Korean film.

The film from the Indonesian version is quite reminiscent of the original version, but with a local touch that is familiar to audiences in the country. If in South Korea the two main characters meet on the gonghang cheoldo (subway), Gian and Sisi meet on the KRL.

2. Chemistry Jefri Nichol and Tiara Andini Talking about the main character, how are the efforts of these two young Indonesian actors to represent two iconic characters that are loved by fans in the Ginseng Country?

Quoted from ANTARA, Jefri Nichol as Gian gave a different appearance from the roles he had played before. Gian is a "helpless" and "patient" man, especially when paired with the dominant Sisi.

For Tiara Andini, this is her big screen acting debut. For the first appearance, Tiara could say that she played well to show the "disgusting" side of Sisi. These two young actors have good acting skills, especially with two different characters, which can make the dynamics of their relationship go up and down. . The actions of both are quite witty, adorable, and fun to watch.

However, it seems that these two characters lack a strong motivation to then make the audience have an understanding of their respective choices.

Moreover, for Sisi's character, which is quite explosive and unpredictable. It may be difficult for some to empathize with him and even more difficult to follow. But still, the performances of the two main players deserve appreciation, and are suitable for teenage audiences and fans to watch.

3. Very Youthful Visuals Now, let's talk about visuals. Fajar Bustomi is not a foreign name for Indonesian teen films. Call it the trilogy "Dilan and Milea" (2018-2020) to "Mariposa" (2020). Of course, he has his own formula in concocting films of the same genre, and it can be seen in his version of "My Sassy Girl".

The bright colors and cheerfulness that adorn the screen are indeed suitable for telling a teenage love story. Unfortunately, it can't cover up some small details that were missed, one of which is the continuity of the scene.

Admittedly, this is not a big deal, however, it is quite surprising for the audience who gave full attention to the film.

However, with strong characters, of course, the audience will return to focus on the storyline and the appearance of the actors in it.

4. Qualified Supporting Players Apart from Jefri Nichol and Tiara Andini, there were also acts that stole the attention and helped get the audience laughing. For example, Indy Barends as Ratih (Gian's mother), Surya Saputra as Yudha (Gian's father), and Jaja Mihardja as a hotel receptionist.

Even though they don't have a large portion in the story or in the film, their appearance seems to be a special spice that keeps an imprint on their taste.

From the audio side, the film is filled with the official theme songs "My Sassy Girl". There is "Accustomed to Alone" which was brought by Petrus Mahendra. There is also "365" by Tiara Andini and "Amazed" by King Giannuca.
