Push For The Acceleration Of The Prevention Of Blindness, Ms.: One Of The Most Beautiful Gifts Is The Eye

JAKARTA - In Pangkalpinang, DPR Speaker Puan Maharani reviewed the free cataract surgery activities. He encourages the acceleration of the program for the Prevention of Visual Impairment and Blindness.

The free cataract surgery event was organized by the DPD PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) Bangka Belitung Islands at the Depati Hamzah Hospital, Pangkalpinang, Monday 20 June. There are at least 1,000 Babylonians who participated in this free cataract surgery.

There, Puan also saw the implementation of Cataract surgery in the operating room. He also talked with a number of residents who were waiting for their families to have cataract surgery.

Puan also had time to check the patient's condition before and after surgery. He had a dialogue with one of the patients who was waiting for his turn to be operated on, Mrs. Anisa.

"How do you know about this free surgery, mom?" asked Mrs.

Anisa, who will undergo surgery on her left eye, admitted that she always follows information because free cataract surgery is an annual routine program organized by the DPD PDIP Babel. Anisa previously also followed the same program for her right eye.

“I am happy, and want to participate in the operation again because it is free of charge. My neighbors are also aware of this PDIP action. They want to come and join too, but some are still afraid of surgery, ma'am," answered Anisa.

Puan then appealed to people who have vision problems due to cataracts not to hesitate to take advantage of the facilities from PDIP. Moreover, there are the best ophthalmologists to maximize Free Cataract surgery activities.

"The ophthalmologist was immediately brought in from Bandung, West Java, and worked together with various parties including the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia," said Puan.

The chairman of the PDIP DPP also appealed to people who have families with cataracts, especially the elderly, to invite them to immediately undergo treatment. One of the efforts that can be done, said Puan, is to participate in social activities such as those carried out by PDIP.

“The gift of seeing through the eyes is one of the great gifts of the Almighty. With our eyes we can see the beauty of the world," said Puan.

“Here, I was told that many of the participants for free Cataract surgery are elderly. With our eyes, we can see our children and grandchildren. With our eyes we can also read the holy book, fulfill spiritual needs in our hearts through reading holy verses with our eyes," added Puan.

The former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture also highlighted the blindness rate in Babylon which reached 3 percent, of which 85 percent were caused by cataracts. Puan said, PDIP participated in assisting the government in accelerating the program for the prevention of visual impairment and blindness. "Because of course it is difficult for us if our vision is disturbed by diseases such as cataracts in the eye. However, the cost of cataract surgery can be unaffordable for many people," he said.
