Pregnant Because She Was Raped, This Mother Hid Her Baby In The Closet Until Starving

JAKARTA - A mother who hid her baby in a cupboard until starving was arrested by the police. She is suspected of being pregnant as a result of being raped by her own husband.

Yulia Zykov, 37, was jailed in Russia for torturing her six-month-old baby. The baby was rushed to hospital for intensive care because of his critical condition.

A horrendous photo surfaced online, showing a baby found hidden in a backpack in a cupboard by a family friend who heard the crying.

The mother faces up to seven years in prison amid claims she neglected an "unwanted baby".

In the Channel One TV show 'Na Samom Dele' or in English means 'Actually', Yulia's husband, Andrey Zykov (39) was asked if he raped his wife after an argument, he first told TV viewers: "Yes, that's right."

Then she said: "No, it's not rape. I don't understand your question."

He volunteered to take a polygraph test on the broadcast, and was again asked if he raped his wife leading to unwanted children.

He replied: "No."

But the polygraph operator said: "That's a lie."

Zykov covered his face with his hands at the prime time event.

He also took the baby - who is now in stable condition in the hospital in their hometown Karpinsk - into his own.

Zykov has not been charged with any crime, but his testimony will now be considered by state investigators examining the case of the emaciated mother and child.

Meanwhile, the baby's brother said on the same TV show that his mother didn't tell him that the baby was his sister.

She said her mother said a friend asked her to look after the baby, which the media called 'Katya' or 'Polina'.

The mother told her not to reveal the baby's whereabouts to the neighbors.
