Pretending To Sell Betel Nuts, Bengkulu Men Take Away Rp60 Million In Money From The Residents Of Tebing Tinggi, North Sumatra

MEDAN - Bengkulu City resident M Syahrin Batubara (50) was arrested by the police. He is suspected of deceiving the victim, a resident of Tebing Tinggi, North Sumatra by selling areca nut.

The Head of Public Relations of the Tebing Tinggi Police, AKP Agus Arianto, said that Syahrin was arrested after being reported by the victim, Teuku Jecky Diansyah Ulba (47) who was tricked by the perpetrator.

The fraud committed by the perpetrator began when the victim and the perpetrator made contact via video call, Monday, October 12, 2021.

"The reported party offered the betel nut to the complainant and someone showed the betel nut during the video call," said AKP Agus, Thursday, June 16.

At that time, the victim was interested in buying the betel nut. However, the perpetrator asked the victim to send money so that the betel nut was sent.

"Then it was agreed to send Rp60 million to the perpetrator's account," continued AKP Agus.

However, after the money was sent, the betel nut promised by the perpetrator was never received by the victim. Until May 12, the victim tried to contact again but the perpetrator could not be contacted.

"At that time the victim realized that he had been tricked," said AKP Agus.

Knowing that he was duped, the victim reported to the Padang Hilir Police. Receiving the report, the police led by the Criminal Investigation Unit Ipda Supriyadi moved to Bengkulu City to arrest the perpetrators.

"The officer was arrested by officers in Bengkulu City, Sunday, June 12. During the investigation, the perpetrator confirmed that he had received Rp60 million from the victim," he said.

Currently, the perpetrator and the evidence of the transfer have been secured at the Padang Hilir Police for further investigation.

"The perpetrator is suspected of Article 372 in conjunction with 378 of the Criminal Code," said AKP Agus.
