JAKARTA - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) conveyed various basic developments related to the progress and enforcement of human rights in Indonesia to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet in Geneva, Switzerland.

"This includes conveying the resolution of several cases that are of public concern as well as the challenges that are being faced," said Chairman of the Indonesian National Human Rights Commission Ahmad Taufan Damanik in a written statement, quoted from Antara, Thursday, June 16.

Apart from discussing actual issues such as the human rights situation in Indonesia, the two institutions also discussed the Papuan peace dialogue initiative initiated by the Indonesian National Human Rights Commission.

Komnas HAM, said Taufan, believes that a peaceful dialogue in Papua can be realized while hoping that more parties will provide support for existing initiatives.

"The Papuan peace dialogue initiative is an approach to solving various human rights problems in Papua," he said.

Not only that, Ahmad Taufan Damanik, who was accompanied by two other commissioners, namely Beka Ulung Hapsara and Mochamad Choirul Anam, also conveyed changes related to the progress of human rights policies and obstacles that still occur.

Meanwhile, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, expressed her appreciation for the steps taken by the Indonesian National Human Rights Commission, especially regarding the Papua peace dialogue initiative.

He said the peaceful settlement of Papua was the best way in the context of human rights.

Michelle Bachelet conveyed that various experiences in other countries can be used as examples to realize a peaceful dialogue, as well as a commitment to support the steps that will be taken by Komnas HAM.
