BPS Reveals East Java's Exports In May 2022 Slumped 15.87 Percent
JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) revealed that the export performance in East Java in May 2022 fell 15.87 percent compared to April 2022, from 2.20 to 1.85 billion US dollars.
Head of East Java BPS Dadang Hardiwan said the decline was due to sluggish demand from a number of destination countries, such as the Netherlands, the United States, China, Australia, Malaysia, Spain and Vietnam.
He said from the records of a number of countries, the largest decline in demand came from the Netherlands, which reached minus 40.32 percent, from US$73.142 million to US$43.650 million.
Followed by China, down 25.54 percent, from US$318.107 million to US$236.877 million.
Dadang explained, when viewed from export commodities, the decline was caused by the decline in the performance of non-oil and gas exports in East Java, which fell by 18.11 percent.
Meanwhile, the export value of the oil and gas sector rose 27.31 percent compared to the previous month, from 108.07 million US dollars to 137.59 million US dollars.
The export role of the oil and gas sector contributed 7.44 percent of East Java's total exports this month.
"When compared to the previous month, exports from the non-oil and gas sector decreased by 18.11 percent, from US$2.09 billion to US$1.71 billion. However, the export value of the non-oil and gas sector contributed 92.56 percent of total exports last month. this," said Dadang, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, June 15.
Meanwhile, East Java's largest non-oil and gas export commodity was copper, with a transaction value of 206.29 million US dollars, an increase of 23.63 percent compared to the previous month which reached 166.86 million US dollars.
"This commodity contributed 12.05 percent to East Java's total non-oil and gas exports this month and the most exported to Malaysia with a value of 63.47 million US dollars," he said.
If you look at the main destination countries for non-oil and gas exports, Japan is the main export destination for East Java in May 2022, followed by the United States and China.
Meanwhile, East Java's trade balance throughout May 2022 experienced a deficit of US$742.75 million.
Cumulatively during January-May 2022, East Java's trade balance still experienced a deficit of US$3.12 billion.
The deficit in the oil and gas sector was recorded at 2.74 billion US dollars, and the non-oil and gas sector was 0.38 billion US dollars.
