A Couple Who Steals Iron Covering A Sewer In Denpasar To Buy Medicine For Children Are Freed By The Police
DENPASAR - The South Denpasar Police, Bali, freed a husband and wife pair with the initials HPS (23) and LSN (22) who were desperate to steal the iron butts of a sewer to pay for the treatment of their child.
South Denpasar Police Chief Kompol I Made Teja Dwi Permana said the couple was released through restorative justice.
"Yes, restorative justice. Free yesterday afternoon," said Kompol Permana, when contacted, Wednesday, June 15.
The couple was released because the victim did not continue to report the case of the theft of iron covering the sewer. The victim has forgiven the perpetrator.
"Then there was peace between the two parties. The victim also forgave the perpetrator at the time of the Polsek mediation. The second loss was also small and only included tipring (minor crime) as well," said Permana.
The theft of the sewer cover took place on Jalan Gurita I, Pedungan Indah Housing, Pedungan Village, South Denpasar District, Bali, Thursday (9/6).
"From the statements of the two husband and wife couples, the theft they carried out was for the purpose of buying medicine for a sick child. Where the stolen iron was sold in a junkyard on Jalan Bung Tomo, Denpasar, for Rp. 126,500," said Head of Public Relations of Denpasar Police. Iptu Ketut Sukadi, Tuesday, June 14.
"For the money from the crime, the perpetrators used the money to buy medicine for children who were sick with Hufagrip's paracetamol, the rest was used to eat," he added.
This theft was reported by residents who saw the cover of the sewer missing. CCTV footage was also checked.
"And after seeing the incident, the reporter took the CCTV footage and uploaded it to the reporter's Instagram and it went viral," said Sukadi.
The police also followed up on this incident by arresting the couple in Pedungan, South Denpasar, Saturday, June 11.
The couple also admitted to stealing metal sewer covers in 8 different places in Denpasar and Badung.
