Indonesia Open 2022: Kevin/Marcus To Round Of 16

JAKARTA — Men's doubles Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon penetrated the last 16 of the Indonesia Open 2022.

The pair nicknamed The Minions beat their compatriot Wahyu Nayaka Pangkaryanira/Ade Yusuf Santoso in two straight games 21-19 and 21-16 at Istora, Jakarta, Tuesday, June 14 evening WIB.

"We are grateful that today we were able to win. Today's opponent is also not easy. They're a long-standing couple and they don't die easily," Kevin said after the match.

This is the second tournament in a row for the Minions after being sidelined since March due to Marcus being on the operating table. Marcus also has not appeared in a condition 100 percent fit.

Previously, they also appeared at the Indonesia Masters 2022 last week. Their steps in the Super 500 tournament reached the semifinals after appearing under the best performance due to Marcus' condition who was not yet fit.

"It's better now than last week. It's still a little sore, but still getting better. The current condition is 80 percent," said Marcus.

In the second round later, the Minions will meet the winner of the Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani match against Korean representatives Kang Min Hyuk/SEO Seung Jae.

Apart from Kevin/Marcus, tickets for the round of 16 have also been obtained by the Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin pair. The pair made it to the round of 16 after winning over the representatives of France, Fabien Delrue/William Villeger.
