2020 Java Jazz Ready To Cool The Political Temperature With Music

JAKARTA - The annual Java Jazz concert is back. In its 16th year, Java Jazz is still consistently spreading jazz music to become one of the leading jazz festivals in the world.

In a press conference held at The Terrace, Jakarta, Wednesday, January 15, the president director of Java Festival Production Dewi Gontha and the team explained in detail about the music festival which will be held from February 28 to March 1, 2020.

Choosing the theme Redeem Yourself Through Music, Java Jazz 2020 tries to heat Indonesia with music after a year has been dominated by political issues. The event, which has become the annual agenda of the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism, tries to bring improvements every year to tap into the wider music market.

A total of 11 stages for three days will feature musicians from around the country and internationally. Line up is also a focus every year, so Java Jazz always tries to bring in musicians, both jazz and not.

Several musicians including headliners namely The Jacksons and Omar Apollo have already been announced in advance via social media. But this time, there were several new names that entered the line-up, namely: Dwiki Darmawan feat. Nadin Amizah, Jay Som, KRLY, Maya Hasan, Michael & Gregg Karukas feat. Melissa Manchester, Michael White, MLDJAZZPROJECT All Star feat. Devinta, Monéva, Arta (ICINC), and MLDJAZZPROJECT S4 Feat. Portrait.

Then there are Fariz RM & Humania, Nita Aartsen Quintet, Nusantero, Pamungkas, Paulinho Garcia, Phil Perry, RINI, Ron King Big Band, The Steve McQueens, United States Air Force Band of the Pacific and Yongky Vincent.

The special show will be filled by The Jacksons and Omar Apollo. The difference between two generations of the headliner has attracted the attention of music lovers. The Jacksons, now the three of whom Randy left behind, have just celebrated 50 years of the group's founding by holding a tour. It's really late, but they make sure The Jacksons will still look good.

On the other hand, Omar Apollo, the R&B singer who is the line up of the Lollapalooza festival, will be stepping on the capital city for the first time. Referred to as the musician Rolling Stone needs to listen to, he will feature songs from the two mini albums as well as a collaboration track.

Efficiency in Festival

With the development of today's festivals, Java Jazz racked his brains to maintain the legitimacy of a festival that focuses on the jazz genre. Using Doodle decorations and adding art installations as part of the festival that was held at JIExpo Kemayoran.

In collaboration with BNI, Java Jazz 2020 establishes a cashless system for efficiency and to keep up with the times. This is the 14th year for BNI to sponsor Java Jazz and they are trying to participate in seeing the various Java Jazz visitors.

Indomora Harahap as the representative of BNI offers a Buy 1 Get 2 promo for purchasing Java Jazz tickets which can be found on the Java Jazz website. In the event later, visitors can also easily open BNI accounts and make transactions.

Different but always the same

At Java Jazz 2020, the organizers decided that there would be no tribute sessions for musicians. The line up can present their own project with music and an attractive design. Ahead of the festival, Java Jazz On The Move will be back again starting January 26 until approaching the upcoming Java Jazz 2020. They will tour Jabodetabek as a small celebration and there will be snippets of some performers.

Dewi hopes that Java Jazz can always exist to be a place for music lovers to always be open to music from other genres. The same thing was conveyed by singer Marcell Siahaan, who admitted that Java Jazz was like home to him.

"It is not just a festival that is regularly held, not just commercial, inviting performers but bigger than that but how we build our national identity even better," said the singer who has been performing at Java Jazz since 2005.

Marcell promises his best performance for this event and it's definitely different. The last time he spawned an album titled This Is Not Jazz in 2018 where the tracks were more dominated by pop. Marcell will be performing the songs from this album but also not forgetting the hit songs.

For Marcell, the Java Jazz event can be a bridge for musicians to get acquainted with music lovers through concerts. So, music lovers in Indonesia are expected to be open to music from other genres when they come to Java Jazz 2020.

You can buy Java Jazz 2020 tickets, 3 Day Pass for IDR 1,875 thousand, Daily Pass for IDR 775 thousand, and The Jacksons Special Show for IDR 375 thousand and Omar Apollo for IDR 250 thousand.
