Meeting Students At Al-Azhar, PBNU Chairman Asks Not To Be Interested In Radical Understanding Must Be True To Aswaja's Faith
JAKARTA - Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) KH Ahmad Fahrur Rozi reminded Indonesian students of the many challenges when studying abroad. For example, liberal and radical ideas.
"Alhamdulillah, our students and students, we always remind us not to be attracted to radical and liberal ideas. So, we just learn to adhere to the teachings of the Aswaja Faith," he said in a statement received in Jakarta, Antara, Monday, June 13. .
According to Gus Fahrur, the symptoms of trans-nationalism organizations in Indonesia have become an important lesson for students studying abroad. Gus Fahrur said this was related to his visit to Indonesian students, especially the PBNU Scholarship program at Al-Azhar University, Cairo, Egypt. The event took place at the Nahdlatul Ulama (PCINU) Special Branch Office in Cairo.
Gus Fahrur's visit was part of a series of invitations to attend the International Fatwa Conference organized by the Egyptian Darul Ifta Majlis and attended by muftis and religious affairs officials from 48 countries in the world.
Gus Fahrur also said that Indonesian students need intensive attention so that they also pay attention to their country, and so that they have sensitivity to the development of society at large, including global issues.
"Their enthusiasm for learning deserves appreciation. In addition to the importance of the students in using their time, studying in Egypt is also part of an awareness to be able to uphold the creed of Ahlussunnah Waljamaah (Aswaja)," he said.
In addition, he explained the position and important role of Egypt, which of course cannot be separated from the long-established educational institution, namely Al Azhar Al-Sharif.
According to him, the Al-Azhar campus has become the most active institution in combating all kinds of extreme religious beliefs in various parts of the world.
“We also affirm our high appreciation for the role of Al-Azhar ash-Sharif under the leadership of His Excellency Professor Dr Ahmed Tayeb. Al-Azhar has worked against all kinds of extremism both inside and outside Egypt. Al-Azhar has played an important role around the world," he said.
The role of Al-Azhar is also inseparable from the existence of Darul Ifta' which is the highest fatwa authority in Egypt and is recognized by the world.
Religious institutions like this, said Gus Fahrur, have high trust from the public, so they have an important role in dealing with various problems faced by millions of people with diverse backgrounds.
Gus Fahrur said that in the Indonesian context, a similar function of Darul Ifta' exists with the MUI. The existence of the MUI fatwa is required to be able to bridge the diverse ethnic and national differences in Indonesia.
Gus Fahrur reminded that there are at least 17,000 islands in Indonesia, a thousand more tribes with their own traditions. Indonesia is the country with the most Muslim population in the world.
"Therefore, fatwa authorities trusted by the people such as Darul Ifta' and MUI have an important role in dealing with various problems of people from different backgrounds," he said.
