Gus Nur's Attorney Will Apply For Suspension Of Detention, Religious Leaders Become Guarantor
JAKARTA - A team of lawyers for Sugi Nur Rahardja alias Gus Nur will soon apply for a suspension of detention. The family and the scholars are said to be willing to be the guarantor behind the request.
"Our attorneys will submit a warrant for detention because last night we submitted to investigators requesting that Ustadz Gus Nur not be detained but not granted," said member of Gus Nur's lawyer team, Chandra Purna Irawan, to VOI, Sunday, October 25.
However, Chandra has not been able to confirm when a letter requesting a detention postponement will be officially submitted to the Police Criminal Investigation Unit.
There are several reasons behind the request for suspension of detention, namely, the client is always cooperative and because he has responsibility to the students in the Islamic boarding school.
"What needs to be considered in terms of guidance to recite the Koran, the livelihoods and operations of the pesantren. Because the students and the operational of the pesantren have been funding Ustadz Gus Nur," he explained.
Applications for suspension of detention will include the names of family members and clerics and community leaders as guarantor. Who are the names of the guarantor, Chandra did not mention.
"The religious scholars and community leaders are willing to be the guarantor," he said.
Previously, the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit decided to detain Sugi Nur Rahardja alias Gus Nur for the alleged spread of hate speech. The detention was carried out after Gus Nur was named a suspect.
"Detained," said Head of Public Relations of the Police, Inspector General Argo Yuwono to VOI, Sunday, October 25.
The detention was carried out after Gus Nur was named a suspect in the case shortly after being arrested at his residence in Pakis District, Malang, East Java, on October 24.
In this case, Gus Nur was reported by the Chairman of the Cirebon Branch of the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Management Azis Hakim to the Police Criminal Investigation Unit. The report numbered LP / B / 0596 / X / 2020 / Bareskrim dated 21 October 2020.
The reporting was because Gus Nur was thought to be spreading information that caused hatred or enmity regarding Nahdlatul Ulama through a statement he uploaded on the MUNJIAT Channel's Youtube account on October 16, 2020.
In reporting, Gus Nur allegedly violated Article 27 paragraph (3) and Article 28 paragraph (2) of Law Number (UU) 19/2016 on Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE).
