Sido Appears To Start Operation Of Rooftop PLTS At Its Factory Located In Semarang, The Result Of Cooperation With SUN Energy

JAKARTA - PT Industri Jamu and Pharmacy Sido Muncul Tbk (SIDO) has started operating a rooftop solar power plant (PLTS) at its factory located in Semarang, Central Java. This is the result of the collaboration between Sido Muncul and SUN Energy.

Sido Muncul President Director David Hidayat said the solar panel operation is one of the company's efforts to increase the renewable energy mix in production activities, as well as to achieve the carbon emission reduction target.

"We believe that the use of renewable energy is the right solution and one that definitely supports the realization of a low-carbon future," he said in a video uploaded by SUN Energy, quoted Monday, June 13.

Furthermore, David said, Sido Muncul has been working on increasing the renewable energy mix since 2021, in addition to using the remaining herbal medicine dregs for biomass. According to him, this initiative will increase the renewable energy mix that SIDO uses, in addition to the use of herbal waste biomass that we use as fuel and at the same time reduce emissions resulting from operational activities.

With the operation of solar panels at the Semarang factory, 40 percent of the energy consumption used in the production process and supporting facilities has used renewable energy.

The solar power installation with a capacity of 2 Mwp carried out by SUN Energy at the Sido Muncul factory increased the proportion of renewable energy use by 18 percent and increased energy efficiency in plant operational activities.

Previously, the construction of the rooftop solar power plant required an investment of US$2 million with a performance base rental financing scheme. With this financing scheme, 25 years of operation and maintenance of solar panels are the responsibility of SUN Energy and after that it will be handed over to Sido Muncul.
