JK Meets Pope Francis On Humanity And Peace
JAKARTA - Jusuf Kalla, meeting Pope Francis at the Vatican, Rome discussed humanity and peace in the world.
Kalla met the leader of the worldwide Catholic Church as a member of the Jury to award the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity.
"The Pope gave a philosophy of meaning rather than human fraternity, human togetherness and brotherhood; because this is very important in today's world where the world is experiencing many crises, ”said Kalla, in a statement quoted by Antara, Friday, October 23.
"Pope Francis also advised the importance of maintaining harmony between human beings in the world, because there is no peace without good human relations," said Kalla, after the meeting.
To all members of the jury, Pope Francis also advised to be objective in evaluating the nominations for award winners.
"The jury will of course also get input from the Pope and the Pope to provide what steps are part of this, because this is for humanity," he said. Previously, in an internal meeting of the Jury for the humanitarian award, Kalla suggested that the inventor of the vaccine and drug for COVID-19 -19 deserves an award.
He believes that these inventors are like heroes because they can save the lives of humans affected by the pandemic.
The Zayed Award for Human Fraternity is an award formed in 2019 to recognize the outstanding work of individuals and entities in making breakthroughs and driving human progress.
The award was held in memory of the first president of the United Arab Emirates and former ruler of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan.
The Zayed Award for Human Fraternity will be awarded for the first time in 2021 to leaders from government circles, representatives of the United Nations and international NGOs, Supreme Court judges and academics.
The deadline for submitting nominations is 1 December 2020 and the announcement of award winners will be made on 4 February 2021, with a total prize pool of USD 1,000,000.
In addition to Kalla, members of the Jury for the award were former president of the Central African Republic, Catherine Samba-Panza, Canada's 27th Governor General, Michaelle Jean, Cardinal Dominique Mamberti and former UN special adviser on Genocide Prevention, Adama Dieng.
