Sri Mulyani Encourages IAEI To Develop A Sharia Economy That Is In Harmony With The Challenges Of The Pandemic

JAKARTA - Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani Indrawati conveyed that the Association of Islamic Economists (IAEI) must be able to develop a sharia economic system that is in line with the challenges of the current COVID-19 pandemic.

"The pandemic must not discourage IAEI administrators from continuing to conduct studies, development, education, and socialization of the Islamic economy for the sake of national economic progress," he said in a press statement during the 2022 IAEI Halal Bihalal and National Work Gathering in Jakarta, Friday, June 10.

According to the Minister of Finance, during the period 2020 to 2021, the IAEI program focuses on discussing important issues that make this organization more relevant in the development of the Islamic economy in the country.

“IAEI's contribution needs to be made by mainstreaming the sharia economy in discussing global and national strategic issues, such as COP26 which discusses climate change, the G20 Presidency of Indonesia, the Sharia Economic Bill, the Tax Regulation Harmonization Bill (HPP), the Central and Regional Financial Relations Bill (HKPD). ), and the achievement of sustainable development goals," he said.

In carrying out activities, continued the Minister of Finance, IAEI continues to encourage capacity building for human resources and sharia economic research, as well as providing solutions between industry, sharia economy, and universities.

"IAEI also actively participates in straightening out public perceptions that are not quite right regarding sharia economic practices in Indonesia, including the management of hajj funds," he said.

Furthermore, the state treasurer said that the IAEI can encourage research and development of innovations in the Indonesian Islamic capital market, which includes public finance, private finance, philanthropy, and blended finance. In addition, IAEI participates in supporting the development of ecosystems and infrastructure for the halal industry.

"We hope that economists in the field of Islamic economics also have analytical skills in the macroeconomic field to critical thinking to be able to participate in solving economic problems not only in Indonesia, but also in the world," concluded Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani.
