BKSAP: DPR Ready To Show Indonesia's Best Face At The World Forum As P20 Host
JAKARTA - The DPR is scheduled to hold a Kick Off for the P20 event in mid-June. The House of Representatives' Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) ensures that the DPR is ready to host the G20 country parliamentary forum which will be held in early October 2022.
"The DPR continues to improve because we want and are ready to show the best face of Indonesia as the host of the P20 which is a meeting of parliamentary chairmen of 20 countries with the world's largest economies," said Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives BKSAP, Irine Yusiana Roba Putri, Friday 10 June.
P20 is a parliamentary forum of G20 countries which is held in a series of G20 Summits. In addition to holding the G20 presidency for the first time, Indonesia is also the host for the multilateral forum.
For the G20 Summit, the Government chose Bali as the location for the world's important forum. Meanwhile, for the implementation of the P20, the DPR RI Building in Senayan, Jakarta, was chosen as the location for the implementation.
"Because this is a prestigious event, Indonesia must be able to show that we are able to organize this forum well and contribute according to the national interest in the discussions," explained Irine in a written statement.
"Moreover, the P20 was not only attended by 20 parliamentary chairmen of the G20 countries but also invited observers so that parliamentarians who came later could come from 40 countries," he continued.
A number of preparations are being made by the DPR in welcoming the presence of state guests, including in terms of physical infrastructure. The DPR is currently paving roads in the parliament complex and repairing a number of buildings or rooms.
“The interior is also a concern, because later the Plenary Meeting Room will be the main venue. We have to prepare in detail the technical matters and the interior of the room so that the P20 will be a meeting that is not only of high quality but also provides comfort for all delegates," said Irine.
In addition to the Plenary Meeting Room, several rooms in the Parliament Complex will also be used as a place for bilateral discussion meetings. Irine ensured that the DPR would facilitate the G20 countries and invited countries as well as possible.
"With careful preparation, it shows the seriousness of Indonesia as the host. We must be able to give our best because this concerns the good name of the Indonesian nation so that we can speak more in global forums," said the member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives.
Irine also stated that the DPR had started to condition security for the preparation of the P20 and G20 events. Learning from experience as the host of the 144th Inter-Parliamentary Union last March, the DPR is believed to be able to make the world forum a success even in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Indonesia has received world recognition for being able to hold an international parliamentary forum in the 144th IPU, in a neat and safe manner, including in terms of health protocols. We must maintain this international recognition," said Irine.
When receiving the P20 presidency relay from Italy in 2021, the Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, officially invited the leaders of the G20 parliament to come to Indonesia for this year's P20 event. Irine said that the seriousness of the DPR in preparing for the P20 event could not be separated from the role of Puan who was directly involved in the preparation process.
"The Chairperson of the DPR has emphasized that the DPR RI is ready to host the G20 or P20 State Parliamentary Forum, both for the success of its implementation and by increasing the P20's contribution to the recovery of the pandemic in the G20 cooperation," he said.
For the P20 event, Indonesia took the theme 'The Role of Parliament in Encouraging Higher Growth and a Healthy Society'. The proposed P20 main agenda in Indonesia is to discuss sustainable development and a green economy, health, as well as human empowerment and capacity building.
“As the Speaker of the DPR said, the synergy of the parliament as the government's strategic partner in discussing the G20 agenda is very important. Indonesia will play an active role in being involved in discussing global issues in order to fight for the interests of the people," concluded Irine.
