Do We See Floyd Mayweather's Successor In Devin Haney?

JAKARTA - American boxer Devin Haney (23 years), may still be young. However, having become the undisputed lightweight champion he deserves credit.

In the duel against George Kombosos at Marvel Stadium, Docklands, Melbourne, Australia, last Sunday, Haney won by unanimous points over the Australian boxer.

The three judges on duty agreed to give Haney the victory. Jury Zoltan Enyedi gave it 116-112, Pawel Kardyni with 118-110, and Benoit Roussel gave it 116-112.

This victory made him crowned a true world champion after the title was held by Pernell Whitaker in the 90s, while extending his unbeaten streak in 28 matches throughout his professional career.

Because he has the potential to become a new boxing superstar, many observers have compared Haney to Floyd Mayweather. Moreover, the lightweight category did not have an undisputed king for 32 years, long before Haney was born.

For Haney, this is truly a dream come true. The reason, he has been a fan of Mayweather since childhood. At the age of 11, he lifted the Ring Magazine belt for Zab Yehuda before his fight against Lucas Matthysse.

"Destined," Haney wrote on Instagram along with her past and present photos.

There is more backstory and boxing myth, though Haney was named by Mayweather himself as his successor when he was just 16 years old.

"I've known him for years," Mayweather told reporters with young Haney by his side.

"I've known his dad Bill for many years, and my dad has worked with him.

"His chemistry, when you work with him, you know . . . he's going to be an amazing professional, and I want this kid to break my record."
