Samsung Guarantees Devices That Are Sold Are IMEI Registered

JAKARTA - Samsung Electronics supports the rules for the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number in Indonesia. They also have a special team that will ensure every Samsung device is registered in the Centralized Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) system.

"So far, it's safe, because we are in a team called government relations which is specifically for active communication with the government, especially regarding IMEI registration," said Product Marketing Manager of Samsung Electronics Indonesia, Irfan Rinaldi, Thursday, October 22. .

Irfan added that so far Samsung Electronics Indonesia has not received complaints from users regarding the enforcement of IMEI rules. Including the news about the CEIR machine being full, thus hindering the new device registration process.

The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo) itself has confirmed that the CEIR machine capacity is sufficient to accommodate the IMEI of a new cellphone. The CEIR machine was built by the Indonesian Cellular Telecommunications Association (ATSI), while its management was carried out by the Ministry of Communication and Information and the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin).

Last week, the smartphone brand from China, Realme, also guaranteed that all of its devices have been registered in the CEIR system. Realme also said that it had not received any reports regarding IMEI.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi revealed that most users can enjoy the device without any interference. Xiaomi also provides a direct communication channel to the aftersales service if consumers face problems, including when there is a disruption due to an unregistered IMEI.

The IMEI control policy, which was passed on 15 September 2020, is jointly organized by the Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Trade, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Communication and Information and is supported by all cellular telecommunications operators.

The government emphasizes that IMEI control on telecommunication equipment is carried out in the framework of consumer protection, as well as providing legal certainty to operators in connecting legitimate equipment to telecommunications networks.
