7 Feet 3 Inches, This 14 Year Old Child Is The World's Tallest Teenager Candidate
JAKARTA - A 14 year old child will be the tallest teenager in the world. Xiaoyu, from Leshan City in southwest China's Sichuan province, is 7 feet 3 inches tall.
Currently, Xiaoyu is waiting for confirmation from the Guinness World Records to be named the tallest male teenager on Earth. His last height was recorded on his 14th birthday on October 18 yesterday.
"He has grown much taller in the last two years," said his grandmother Wu Mei quoted by the Daily Star, Thursday, October 22.
In August, the Xiaoyu family applied for the child to be officially recognized as the Tallest Teen (Male) on Guinness World Records.
"Since I entered school, I have noticed that I am taller than other kids my age. Many students mistake me for being a fellow senior graduate," said Xiaoyu.
"It does bother me, but I decided to make it something positive by registering with Guinness to see if I can get a world record."
Lu Lei, a Guinness World Records certification officer, went to Leshan to validate Xiaoyu's challenge.
Lei was joined by Li Song, a doctor from the Leshan People's Hospital, and a journalist from the Red Star News newspaper.
"The challenger must be male and aged between 13-18. Currently the former Guinness World Record holder is over 18 years old," said Lu Lei.
However, he added that the comparison was irrelevant because the new challenger was much younger.
Officers measure it three times to determine its height - in the morning, during the day and at night. After the measurements are completed, the certification is sent to London for auditing at Guinness headquarters.
Once confirmed, Xiaoyu hopes to become a new world record holder.
