DPR And KPU Agree On 75 Days Of Campaign Period
JAKARTA - The DPR and the General Elections Commission (KPU) have agreed on the duration of the 2024 Simultaneous General Election (Pemilu) campaign period for 75 days in a consultation meeting at the DPR.
"The leadership of the DPR together with the leadership of Commission II of the DPR and members of the KPU held a consultation meeting regarding the implementation and stages of the 2024 Election. The cost of the stages until the election was set at Rp. 76.6 trillion and the duration of the campaign period was set to be 75 days," said DPR Speaker Puan Maharani in a statement. press conference at the DPR building, quoted by Antara, Monday, June 6.
With the duration of the campaign period, Puan said the KPU is expected to be able to carry out the manufacture and distribution of election logistics in accordance with the agreed stages and schedule. Puan also hopes that the government will issue a presidential regulation (perpres) that regulates the procurement of logistics for the 2024 election so that the process runs smoothly.
"We hope that the discussion of the presidential regulation related to logistics will continue to be carried out jointly between the Government, the KPU, and the DPR; so that whatever is produced is according to the discussion and is beneficial for the implementation of the election," he said.
Regarding the 2024 election budget which was agreed at Rp76.6 trillion, Puan hoped that the budget could be used efficiently and effectively and maximized according to needs.
He said the DPR also asked that the procedure and mechanism for handling election disputes at the Constitutional Court (MK) and the Supreme Court (MA) be carried out for a maximum of 21 days in accordance with statutory regulations.
However, he added, the handling of the election dispute is sought to be faster so that it does not drag on, so that the implementation of the general election and local elections goes according to expectations.
Puan also asked that the aspects of human resources (HR) that carry out each stage of the election must be considered, for example the Voting Committee (PPS) and the Voting Organizing Group (KPPS), particularly related to education, health and workload requirements.
According to him, aspects of the safety and workload of election officials must be considered so that the death of an officer in the 2019 election does not happen again.
In the press conference, the Chairman of the KPU RI Hasyim Asyari said that his party needed the support of the DPR in the task of drafting KPU regulations (PKPU) related to all stages of the election.
"Thus, future PKPU discussions need the support of the DPR as a law maker so that the substance of PKPU is in accordance with Law Number 17 of 2017 concerning Elections; and in terms of the election budget, it is in the DPR in terms of approval," said Hasyim.
He expressed his gratitude for the support from the leadership of the DPR and the leadership of Commission II of the DPR in the implementation of the 2024 Election. According to him, political support from the DPR is very important so that elections that are held regularly every five years can be held.
