Corruption In The Grand Mosque Project, The Regent Of South Solok Is Disabled. Sentenced To 4 Years In Prison
PADANG - The panel of judges at the Padang Corruption Court, West Sumatra, sentenced the inactive South Solok Regent Muzni Zakaria to 4 years in prison. Muzni was proven proven to have accepted bribes for the Grand Mosque and South Solok Bridge project.
"Found the defendant guilty and sentenced him to four years in prison," said Chief Judge Yose Rizal in the verdict read out in court as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, October 21.
In addition to imprisonment, the inactive South Solok Regent Muzni was also sentenced to pay a fine of Rp. 250 million, a subsidiary of four months in prison. In considering the verdict, the judge said Muzni did not support the government's program to eradicate corruption.
Meanwhile, Muzni is said to have a history of heart disease, has never been convicted, and is polite during the trial.
On this verdict, Muzni's lawyer, David Fernando and Audi Rakhmat Cs who attended the trial virtually expressed their thoughts. Likewise, the prosecutor at the KPK expressed his thoughts on the judge's verdict.
The sentence decided by the judge was lighter than the previous prosecutor's demands which demanded a sentence of six years in prison.
The defendant was charged with the first alternative indictment, namely article 12 letter b of Law 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Corruption, Juncto (Jo) Article 64 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code.
Apart from being demanded to pay a fine of Rp. 250 million, a subsidiary of six months in prison, and compensation of Rp. 3,375 billion for a subsidiary of two years of imprisonment.
The case that ensnared Muzni was a bribery case related to the South Solok Grand Mosque project for the 2018 Fiscal Year and the work of the South Solok Bridge for the 2018 Fiscal Year.
