Jakarta Formula E Qualification: Former F1 Driver Becomes First To Win Pole Position At JIEC Ancol
JAKARTA - DS Techeetah racer, Jean-Eric Vergne, became the first to win the pole position of Formula E Jakarta at JIEC Ancol. The former Formula 1 driver won the pole position after winning the qualifying final, Saturday, June 4, at noon, western Indonesia time.
This result makes Vergne record a new record in Formula E. This is the 15th pole for Vergne.
Vergne beat his teammate, Antonio Felix Da Costa, who will start the race in the third position. While the third position is occupied by Mitch Evans.
The fourth starting position will be occupied by Edoardo Mortata, the ROKiT Venturi Racing rider. He failed to make it to the final after losing to Da Costa in the semifinals.
Stoffel Vandoorne, who controlled the drivers' standings, had to settle for starting from the seventh position. He failed to achieve a better result after conceding Mitch Evans' lead in the quarter-finals.
While Nyck de Vries and Olivier Rowland who controlled FP1, failed to qualify for the group qualifying session. They both failed to qualify from Group B.
A Formula E qualifying session is different from an F1 race. The first qualifiers were divided into two groups, namely groups A and B.
After that, the top four riders in each group will take part in the next session, namely the quarter-finals, semifinals, and then the final.
