Anies: Jakarta E-Prix Proof Of Host's Commitment Towards Environmentally Friendly Cities
JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan emphasized that the Formula E electric car racing event which took place in Jakarta or called the Jakarta E-Prix 2022 will further strengthen the host's commitment to an environmentally friendly city.
"Formula E is an important moment in the history of our city to move towards an environmentally friendly city, a city that helps save the planet because together we are trying to reduce the greenhouse effect on our own land," said Anies at the Jakarta E-Prix media center. International Circuit (JIEC) was launched by Antara, Friday, June 3.
According to Anies, the sporting event which was watched by more than 150 countries will give a strong message to the world that Jakarta is taking responsibility in dealing with climate change and global warming by starting the transformation towards environmentally friendly vehicles.
Jakarta set a target in 2015 that it would reduce the greenhouse effect by 30 percent by 2030.
"Alhamdulillah, it is still eight years until 2030 and we have succeeded in reducing it to 26 percent. We hope this can be achieved later, hopefully in 2025, five years faster than the target," said Anies.
In addition, Jakarta has also determined that it will achieve net zero emission in 2050. Anies is determined to reach that phase within 28 years.
To achieve this target, Anies said he had started the step by converting public transportation using electricity.
"Yesterday I said 100, it turns out that we have succeeded in raising the target, hopefully this year it can be 200 electric buses, then all new buses will use electrical energy," said Anies.
"So, this car racing is not just an ordinary car racing, but it is a car racing with the spirit of environmental sustainability. Therefore, the effect is not only economical but also ecological, this is what we want to target together. And, God willing, this message will continue to resonate and awareness of all of us," he added.
Jakarta E-Prix 2022, which is the ninth series of Formula E, will heat up with fierce battles between the drivers fighting for the podium. The drivers will start a busy schedule on Saturday morning starting with a medical examination by the International Automobile Federation (FIA).
The drivers are scheduled to start free practice for two sessions in the morning, which will be followed by qualifying in the afternoon, with the peak of the race will take place at 15.04WIB.
