Convicted Of Corruption, Ex Simeulue Regent Pays State Losses Of IDR 595 Million

BANDA ACEH - The convict in the corruption case Darmili, who is a former regent of Simeulue, paid a state loss of Rp595 million to the Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the Simeulue District Attorney's Office (Kejari) related to corruption in the capital investment of the Simeulue Regency Regional Company (PDKS).

Chief of the Kejari Simeulue R. Hari Wibowo said the refund by Darmili, who is still serving a prison sentence, was an execution of the decision of the Supreme Court (MA).

"The Rp595 million was handed over by Afridawati, the wife of the convict Darmili, to the public prosecutor of the Simeulue District Attorney. The amount of the replacement money is based on the decision of the Indonesian Supreme Court," Hari said, quoted by Antara, Friday, June 3.

The Supreme Court's decision stated that if the convict did not pay the replacement money, one house in Banda Aceh and two cars belonging to the convict would be confiscated and auctioned.

However, Hari said, considering that coordination with the state auction office took a long time, the prosecutor's office ordered the convict to pay the state's losses, so that houses and cars did not need to be auctioned off.

"With the payment of state losses, the house and car are returned to the convict, while the Rp200 fine has not been paid by the convict Darmili," he added.

The convict Darmili was found guilty by a panel of judges at the Banda Aceh Corruption Court (Tipikor) in the corruption case of capital investment in PDKS, with a sentence of four years and four and six months in prison.

In addition to imprisonment, Darmili also has to pay a fine of Rp. 200 million subsidiary or a substitute penalty if he does not pay for three months in prison and pay a replacement fee of Rp. 595 million.

Darmili was found guilty of violating Article 2 of Law (UU) Number 31 of 1999, which was changed to Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning the eradication of criminal acts of corruption.

On the decision of the panel of judges at the Banda Aceh Corruption Court, Darmili filed an appeal to the Banda Aceh High Court. However, Darmili's appeal was rejected and he then appealed to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court also rejected the Simeulue Regent's appeal for the 2002-2007 and 2007-2012 periods.
