Moeldoko Admits Public Communication Regarding The Job Creation Law Is Very Bad

JAKARTA - Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko acknowledged that there was poor communication between the government and the public regarding the Omnibus Law on Cipta Kerja, which led to demonstrations by labor unions and students.

As a result of this bad communication, Moeldoko admitted that the ranks of the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet were reprimanded by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

"Particularly in the context of the Omnibus Law on Work Creation, there were suggestions from various parties and we were all reprimanded by the president that our public communication was very bad," said Moeldoko to reporters at his office, Wednesday, October 21.

Jokowi's warning, continued Moeldoko, was conveyed during a limited meeting agenda some time ago to anticipate additional cases of COVID-19 in Indonesia during the long holiday at the end of October. It is known that during the closed meeting on Monday, October 19, President Jokowi did indeed rebuke his minister's communication style.

At that time, the former Governor of DKI Jakarta asked his minister to intensively deliver information related to the COVID-19 vaccine so that there would be no confusion as was the case with the Job Creation Law.

After being reprimanded by Jokowi, Moeldoko then said that the cabinet would now try to improve the communication style for the better. "This is input from outside as well as the president. We will immediately improve ourselves for a better future," he said.

Previously, when reprimanding his minister, Jokowi said that poor communication resulted in public protests from the Job Creation Law. So, he hopes that the same thing will no longer happen in the effort to provide the COVID-19 vaccine.

"Regarding the COVID-19 vaccine, in the future I ask not to be in a hurry because it is very complex regarding perceptions in society. If the communication is not good, there could be events like the Job Creation Law.
