Demonstration Against New Autonomous Regions In Several Papua Regions, Regional Police Ensure Safe And Conducive Situation

JAYAPURA - The Papuan Police ensured that demonstrations in a number of areas were safe and conducive. The demonstration was held against the New Autonomous Region (DOB).

“Until now, the situation in Papua Province is safe and conducive. Even though some areas in Papua hold demonstrations," said Head of Public Relations of the Papua Police, Kombes Ahmad Musthofa Kamal in a written statement, Friday, June 3.

Today's demonstration against the New Autonomous Region (DOB) was held by the Papuan People's Petition (PRP), KNPB Baliem in Jayawijaya Regency and Fopera in Paniai Regency.

Demonstrations against DOB were held in Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, Jayawijaya Regency, Nabire Regency, Mimika Regency and Paniai Regency.

In Jayapura, the masses were scattered in the Abe Circle, Expo Waena, Perumnas III. In Jayawiaya Regency, demonstrations were held at the Sinakma Wamena T-junction, Wouma Area, Hom Hom-Pikei Wamena Area.

Meanwhile in Mimika, the masses held demonstrations against the new autonomous regions at the DPRD, Regional Government and Timika Indah Field offices.

Kombes Kamal said that the main officials of the Papuan Police, led by Karo Ops of the Papuan Police, Kombes I Ketut Gede Wijatmika, went directly to the field to ensure the situation in Jayapura City.

The Papuan Police and the Resort Police held patrols and isolation as well as raids at a number of points.

"For the overall situation in Papua so far, it is relatively safe and conducive, joint personnel are still carrying out security at mass gathering points. In some areas the masses have dispersed safely," said Kombes Kamal.

It was also emphasized that the public should not believe hoax videos and photos with narratives of clashes between the police and the masses.

"Let's take a look at the news or information circulating on social media and don't be a disseminator of news that is not necessarily true or a hoax," he said.
