Google Removes This Very Useful Feature In Assistant
JAKARTA - Google Assistant deserves to be dubbed as a smart assistant for humans, how not, it has a location-based reminder feature. Unfortunately, this feature is no longer available.
For the uninitiated, this location-based reminder feature allows users to specify a location, so they can get an alert when they arrive wherever it may be.
For example, users can say "Remind me to call (their friend's name) in Jakarta," and Google Assistant will send them a notification when they set foot in the city.
But unfortunately, for users who rely on this feature, Google will reportedly remove it soon. On the Assistant Help page, Google added a line that said, "The option to create reminders for specific locations will be discontinuing soon."
In fact, the Mountain View, California, USA-based tech giant lagged behind Apple and Amazon in introducing the feature and first announced the ability to set location-based reminders via Google Home devices in 2018.
According to 9to5Google, the removal of the feature has just been notified by Google when the user will set a reminder with location.
However, Google doesn't say why, and only recommends setting a reminder at a specific time or setting a routine for a location. Users are also given the ability to have Google Assistant perform a series of tasks that are triggered based on where they are.
Google doesn't have an exact date for when the feature will be removed, but 9to5Google says it could be part of the company's efforts to make way for the long-awaited Memory upgrade for Google Assistant.
It is intended to turn the voice assistant into a handy organizer, allowing users to store content, pictures, reminders, and other items in one place that has a smart search function. This was quoted from Engadget, Friday, June 3.
