JAKARTA - Football fans burst into laughter in response to the involvement of Liverpool legend Michael Owen's daughter in the next Love Island event. They hoped Gemma Owen wasn't as boring as her father.

Gemma was confirmed as a contestant for the eighth season of the hit show ITV2 on Monday. When asked why she took part in the show, Gemma said: "I'm open to finding love, I want to have a really fun summer.

"I met someone, and when it didn't work out, I thought: 'Why not'?"

However, fans of the hit reality TV show were quick to crack jokes after Gemma's involvement was announced.

Gemma is a sports star in her own right, and she added: "I've been competing for Great Britain in dressing since I was 11.

"I've traveled all over Europe competing in big arenas in big competitions. I would say I'm very competitive. [When it comes to relationships] I will always go after what I want."
